Welcome, Darren!

In November 2024, Beryllium Pictures welcomed our newest team member, Darren Wynn. Darren comes to us from the world of live event production where he has enjoyed a diverse career as both a DJ and a wedding/event videographer.

As Production Specialist, Darren plays an integral role on every shoot. Often first in and last out, he assists the production team in the setup, operation, and breakdown of all of our camera, lighting and audio gear. He ensures that batteries are always charged, media cards are always available, and the set is running smoothly.

When he's not out on a shoot, Darren takes on a variety of tasks around the office. He’s the guardian of our gear, making sure everything is tucked safely in its case, calibrated to perfection, and ready to roll.  If anything is in need of repair, he makes sure it is securely packed up and promptly shipped off. As our media manager, Darren guarantees that all footage is safely offloaded, cataloged, and backed up in multiple locations. He also assists the post team with the creation of proxy files, transcriptions, file transfers, and even some light editing.

We are excited to have Darren on our team and are looking forward to seeing how he will elevate our work here at Beryllium!

Getting to know Darren

What got you into video production?

I got into video production back when I used to be a DJ. I was getting really into movies and TV at the time and just felt the need to get my hands on a camera. It just made perfect sense to start off by filming my DJing events and making videos for them. I used to watch a ton of Youtube tutorials on filming and editing and eventually I started working on music videos, weddings, and other types of content.

What is your favorite piece of gear?

My favorite piece of gear has to be the Ronin stabilizer. I was so excited to get my first one in 2018. Having the ability to get that smooth, flowing camera movement was a huge boost to my video quality when I was first starting, and I've gotten super comfortable shooting with it over the years.

Where do you find creative inspiration?

A lot of my inspiration comes from music. I've always been into music, of course, with being a DJ before. With a lot of my favorite movies the music is a big part of what makes them have such a big impact. When I'm editing a lot of times I can't even get started until I find the perfect song.

What do you nerd out about?

TV and movies are something I'll always get really deep into, especially when something new comes out that I really like. I also play a lot of video games and I've been learning the guitar for the last two years, so I'm always on Youtube researching or learning new songs. I seem to have a new interest that takes over my life every couple months.

What are some of your favorite movies, TV shows, and music artists?

Some of my favorite movies are Whiplash, the first Lord of the Rings movie, and Mad Max Fury Road. For TV shows Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, The Expanse, The Bear, and White Lotus. I loved Game of Thrones before its downfall.

What are you reading right now?

Right now I'm reading the first book in the Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson. I've been reading a lot of sci-fi lately so I wanted to switch things up and try a few fantasy books.
